Content Curation

Content curation is extremely important to ranking on the Google search engine result page (SERP). Content is one of the main methods to communicate to Google what exactly your website offers to its searchers. It is important to ensure that your content is sophisticated and authoritative.

How to provide a depth of information content to establish yourself as an authority

Many websites make the mistake of creating one practice area page and throwing the kitchen sink at this page. You want to establish that you are authoritative on more than just one practice area. You want to create a number of practice area pages dedicated to specific topic and information. With this approach, Google is able to see that you have a number of topics where you are an authority.

Beyond your practice area pages, you want to create supplemental information. For example, if you are providing content on being a car accident lawyer, it is best to provide further information that is helpful to a google searcher looking into car accidents. Examples would be “most dangerous intersections in your local city,” “how to file a claim,” “what to do right after an accident.” These supplemental pages will allow Google to understand you provide a depth and wide range of information, not just one page selling your services.

How to set yourself apart in your industry

As a professional, you are an authoritative figure with an abundance of knowledge to share. How you share that information is key. If you are practicing a niche, show that off. For example, if you are a family lawyer but you specifically cater to fathers in divorces, create a blog discussing elements of how your practice is different because of your focus. Create FAQ videos or get yourself quoted in blogs or articles around the internet. Become the authority on that specific niche practice area.

Write about what you know about. Content that is curated from a place of interest is always stronger. You are also more likely to create content more regularly if it is on a topic you are passionate about.
