Google Bumps Review Requirement up to Five to Run New Local Service Ads

03 Aug, 2022 Paid Search

Google has recently rolled out a new update regarding running a new local service ad effective June 30th. Prior to this update, businesses only had to have one review if they wanted to run a new ad. However, now they must have a minimum of five reviews if they are looking to run a new local service ad.

The good news is that everything else remains the same. Google implemented this update to better ensure that those who are running ads are trustworthy. A higher number of reviews from actual people builds the credibility of that business and fosters a sense of trust. This may support companies as they are more likely to draw in higher numbers of customers if they appear to be reputable and receive verification of their services and goods from previous customers.

Who Does This Impact?

This Google update is not widespread and applicable to all industries. Instead, it only impacts individuals within select professions. These professions include:

  • Real Estate Agents and Brokers
  • Personal Injury Lawyers
  • HVAC
  • House Cleaners
  • Tree Services
  • Roofing

Therefore, if you work within one of those areas and are looking to run a new ad in the near future, you’ll want to check out your review count. Keep in mind that your business now requires five reviews instead of one. Additionally, it still has yet to be confirmed if this rule will eventually apply to all industries or if it will be permanently restricted to these select few.
