BluShark Digital Named a Top Growing Company by Inc.
BluShark Digital is happy to announce that we have been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the D.C. metro area by Inc. Among 5,000 companies evaluated across the country, BluShark ranked 17th overall in the Washington metro region. In the D.C. area, BluShark was ranked as the 2nd fastest growing company operating in the advertising and marketing sector.
Why BluShark was Selected
This was the first year that Inc. included the D.C. area in their company evaluation. Inc. examined companies for the 5,000-list based on multiple criteria. The primary factor was revenue growth percentage between 2016 and 2018. Between those years, BluShark Digital’s revenue grew over 500%, which was 5 times greater than the median growth rate for Washington companies. In its ranking, Inc. only considered privately held, independent companies in the United States. The minimum revenue required to be considered in 2016 was $100,000 and $1,000,000 in 2018.
Growth in the D.C. Area
The Washington area overall experienced significant growth between 2016 and 2018. The average two-year growth rate was 196% for companies in the greater Washington metro area. The real estate industry had an average growth rate of 483%, with one company seeing a 3,671% growth rate over the two-year span. The government services industry was the largest revenue generating sector in the D.C. metro area, accounting for $1.9 billion in revenue across 65 companies.
The Future of the D.C. Region
Between 2016 and 2018, over 41,000 jobs were added to the Washington metro area, and more jobs are expected to be added in the coming years. Amazon’s announcement of their second headquarters in the D.C. area is expected to increase economic development in the area. Inc. also rated Washington as a top city to start a business in 2020. For this evaluation, Inc. examined the high growth-rate, funding deals, and rate of entrepreneurship in the region.

Inc. is a brand that focuses on growing companies throughout the United States. Inc. originally published a list the 500 fastest growing companies in the country, but the list recently expanded to 5,000 to better represent the amount of companies across the nation. Currently, Inc. has published company evaluation lists for California and the D.C. area and has plans to release lists for Texas, Florida, and the Midwest in March.
