In 2023, Google filed a lawsuit against a group of scammers who used Google Maps and Business Profiles to post fake businesses and reviews. According to Google, the scammers created more than “350 fraudulent Business Profiles and tried to bolster them with more than 14,000 fake reviews.” As a result, Google is not only suing the scammers but has also released a spam report form to help aid in the fight of spammy or deceptive content.

In June 2023, Google released a new search quality report form that makes it easier for users to report spam, paid links, low-quality websites, malicious behavior, and other search quality issues. The new form is more comprehensive and includes several new features, such as the ability to submit up to five pages that violate the same policy in one report.
