New Ways to Optimize Your Video in Google Search
At this years Google I/O, John Mueller, a senior webmaster trends analyst at Google, announced two new major changes to Google Search that will help videos reach a wider audience. Clip markup and Seek markup are two new structured data that will automatically create key moments for video clips. Clip markup is live and seek markup is still in the beta version.
How Clip Markup Works
Clip markup manually tells Google what timestamp and label to use for the key moments in the video clip. You will need three properties to have Google show users the specific timestamps and labels of your video; a tag on text form, the starting time, and the URL that will link to the specific timeslot. This will allow you to directly display all these segments as search results.
How Seek Markup Works
Seek markup tells Google how your URL structure works to allow Google to display key moments in the video clip. With machine learning, Google will automatically examine and segment the contents in your video. You will need to notify Google of the process to link any timestamp within your video that will be uploaded to their site.
Benefits of Clip and Seek Markup
Both clip and seek markup will allow you to directly display all these segments as search results. This makes it easier for users to be directed to the part of the video they are searching for. Utilizing either clip or seek markup will allow your videos to stand out amongst the others. Clip and seek markup could increase the results for video in Google Search, and if you have an increase in video results, it can improve your CTR.
